Common questions, honest answers.
Do you need a contractor's license to do handyman work in Florida?
In Florida, you don't need a contractor's license for handyman work as long as the job is under $1,000 in labor and materials, or you're working under the supervision of a licensed contractor. Anything over that threshold requires a license. Handy, Hands and Moe stays within the handyman scope and refers larger jobs to licensed contractors when needed.
How much does a typical handyman job cost?
Most small repairs — fixing a door, patching drywall, replacing a faucet — run $150-$400 depending on materials and time. Larger jobs like painting a room, installing tile, or building custom shelving are quoted per project after we see the scope of work. We provide free estimates so you know the cost before we start.
Do you provide free estimates?
Yes. We'll come out, look at the work, talk through what needs to happen, and give you a price. If it's a straightforward job we've done before, we can sometimes estimate over the phone with photos. For anything custom or complicated, we need to see it in person.
How soon can you start?
Most jobs get scheduled within a week. Small repairs can sometimes happen same-day or next-day if we have an opening. Larger projects that need materials ordered or specific weather conditions take longer to schedule. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when we book the job.
What areas do you serve?
Handy, Hands and Moe serves Greater Columbia County and the surrounding areas. We'll travel up to 20 miles from the area for most jobs. If you're outside that range, call anyway — we'll let you know if we can make it work.
Do you work on mobile homes?
Yes. Mobile homes have different framing, fasteners, and materials than site-built homes, and we know how to work with them. We do floor repairs, belly wrap replacement, skirting, and all the interior and exterior work that comes up in manufactured homes.
